TRW Automotive is the dominant manufacturer of calipers worldwide for both front and rear disc brake vehicle applications. TRW designed and manufactured the world’s most popular caliper, the Colette, which was introduced in 1975 and has been fitted to over 170 vehicle models by over 30 vehicle manufacturers.

TRW Automotive has manufactured over 350 million calipers to date and offers both new and exchange caliper ranges to satisfy the different market demands throughout Europe. A hassle free core return system for the exchange programme ensures customer friendly administration.

Manufacturing

Our remanufacturing facility in Czech Republic, certified to ISO9001, TS14001 and TS16949, uses a sophisticated and environmentally friendly production process. Investment in the latest technology for core treatment ensures an effective use of caliper housings, regained for remanufacturing purposes. The housings are 100% cleaned and treated using a fine grade shot blasting system. In order to ensure the functionality of the caliper, only the caliper housing is remanufactured, all components are replaced by new high quality parts. To ensure correct fitment of calipers and to eliminate problems with trapped air, reconditioned TRW Colette calipers with incorporated handbrake mechanisms are pre-filled with brake fluid. Housings are also coated with Chrome 6 free zinc ‘silver’ plating to ensure a high quality finish and appearance which also protects customers from future European legislation in 2007.

Testing

TRW calipers are 100% line tested during production to OE standards and are subjected to low pressure decay and high pressure casting integrity. All calipers are marked with a traceability code in line with TRW’s strict production controls. All remanufactured calipers are checked for damage and excessive corrosion and any housings that do not meet TRWs exacting standards are scrapped.
